The second colourful life

I have been in love with the island of Lanzarote for many decades and have been able to spend part of my time here.

From the very beginning, I have been fascinated by the many different animal bones hidden in the island's wild rubbish dumps. I found a lot of them and was given some as gifts by dear village neighbours.

Camels, goats, sheep, dogs, cats, donkeys, rabbits, lizards, rats, fish and birds scattered across the landscape. Not one bone identical to another. So I was able to protect them from rapid transience.

But it wasn't until 2021 that I came up with the idea of adding bright colours to these wonderful shapes and structures of bones and letting their beauty and individuality shine. I combine them with old wood that I find scattered around the island.

In my decades of work as a psychologist, I saw my role as helping people to see life in new ways by adding different perspectives. The full potential of each individual becomes visible and receives the respect it deserves. For example, an unimportant, perhaps even rejected component becomes, figuratively speaking, a unique reservoir of forms and colourful possibilities that must be brought to light.

I can now continue this idea in a literal sense. And that is wonderful.

My second life is just as colourful as my works.
